Ocean Choices offers a variety of life-enhancing programs and skill-based activities for adults with learning disabilities throughout the week, including music, art, drama, and crafts.

Art

Relax and explore the world of painting with us! We’ll teach you various techniques for creating artwork using different media, including pencil, watercolours, acrylics, and oils. You also can learn about the great painters of the world and visit local galleries and exhibitions. Best of all, we provide all the materials you need at no cost to you.

Study Groups

Our weekly study program on Tuesday mornings is very popular. Each topic typically lasts for about six study sessions and covers subjects such as history, literature, and science. In recent years, participants have explored famous works, including the novel "Oliver Twist," the play "An Inspector Calls," and subjects like "The Universe" and "The Age of the Dinosaurs."

Independent Living

We will assist you in acquiring essential life skills, including doing your laundry and making simple clothing repairs, such as sewing on a button. Additionally, we will guide you in maintaining a clean and tidy home. Our support will also cover important financial skills, such as understanding money, shopping, receiving change, and banking. Our goal is to equip you with all the necessary knowledge to use money effectively.

Health & Beauty

Our therapy room is fully equipped and functional, offering a complete range of beauty treatments. A qualified practitioner provides head and hand massages as well. Additionally, a hairdresser can be booked for both men’s and women’s haircuts.

Drama

Our drama program includes singing, dancing, and serious theatrical performances. Each year, we typically produce two variety shows and have recently completed two films. Participating in drama activities can offer several benefits for adults with learning disabilities, including:

– **Teamwork and Communication Skills:** Organizing a play or musical requires coordination among team members, fostering time management, collaboration, and idea exchange among peers. These elements are essential for social engagement and developing group skills.

– **Anxiety Management:** Engaging in drama can help individuals cope with anxiety.

– **Recognizing Emotions and Facial Expressions:** Drama can enhance emotional awareness and understanding of nonverbal cues.

– **Social Skills On and Off Stage:** Participating in drama encourages social interaction and helps build interpersonal skills.

– **Confidence and Self-Expression:** Engaging in drama activities can boost self-esteem and provide a platform for personal expression

Craft

This activity improves hand coordination, imagination and the creation of objects that have a seasonal theme e.g. Christmas or Halloween.

Health & Well Being

We provide regular weekly activities promote physical fitness, including dance, yoga, and upper body exercises.

These are just a few of the activities which are provided each week.

We are also able to provide personal choices for activities and encourage everyone to do the things that interest them.
